Aggregated from various sources.OH MY GOD LOOK WHAT I JUST DID !
Ok, so, the story starts exactly a week ago.
I was playing some casual games of TF2. The round hasn’t started yet and I started looking around at my teammates.
That’s when I saw an engineer pass by me with the “packable provisions” cosmetic.
I had never seen this cosmetic before and. I. Wanted it !
I didn’t want the cosmetic, I wanted it in real life, I soon as I saw it I wanted this bag.
So, as for an other project of mine that isn’t finished yet, I stared planning.
I sketched out the original cosmetic and then reworked it a little, to roughly fit the shape of a classic backpack, as well as adding or changing details to my liking. And made a liste of everything I would supposedly need.
That was a week ago and today I was finally able to go out and buy everything I would need.
I had the bag, I had the fabric, all I needed to do is start measuring and placing everything.
Like that. Then to sew it all in place.
Adding the details with paint and the pocket, etc…
AND IT’S DONE ! LOOK AT IT !
I’m so proud of what I was able to do !
It’s not perfect, I don’t sew very often and I probably could have done it better but… still… I think it’s so cool !
It took me around 11 hours and a half to make it, I worked on it non stop as soon as I got home with the supplies.
I’m posting this right before going to bed, It’s 2am right now… I’m so tired… but I have an awesome bag !!!
i want it
any chance you can give the list of things you used so I can make myself one, OP?
Here it is !
I’d like to say that I am NOT good at this, and some people will do it faster and better. But since you asked, here is a little guide on how I made it.
First, the idea. Here is a clear (I hope) guide of everything I added.
On the original there is no “Push” thing and the bullets (I think those things on the right side are bullets) are in a pocket but I decided to just put a piece of fabric to hold it (looks more similar to the dispenser). but you can also keep the pocket or make one out of mesh to keep the effect while still having a useful pocket.
I started from a “classic” bag (with just a pocket in the front, I used a Eastpack bag, because that’s the only one I could find in the right color (I’m going broke for this project…)) but you can take anything that you see works (be careful that the space between the top and the front pocket it big enough to fit the “Provisions” sign and the screen). You can also take a blue bag if you want to make a BLU dispenser bag.
Here is a list of everything you will need (well… everything I used at least)
- Some dark gray fabric (for the trim, the lid of the pocket, the “push” slot, the bullets on the side, with what is holding it, and the trim of the side pocket)
- Fabric in the color of the bag you choose, red or blue (for the pocket)
- Some light red or light blue fabric, lighter than the bag (for the screen)
- Lighter red or blue fabric (for the visual on the screen)
- White fabric (for the “Provisions” sign)
- Three big black buttons (for the… buttons :/)
- Red, gray, and white thread (with a needle, to sew everything of course (I sew it all by hand because using a machine on this would have been difficult))
- Thicker light gray thread (for the seams on the original cosmetic)
- Red, orange, dark blue, light blue, dark gray and light gray acrylic paint (I used acrylic because I had some and it doesn’t come off on fabric… trust me…I know…)
- Metal wire (for the bullets (you’ll see later why))
- Normally I would have bought an Orange gourd, to put in the pocket to act as the healing tank thingy, just like in the cosmetic but I ran out of money to spare (you know, the whole Eastpack thing) so I’ll add that later :/
I didn’t took any real measurements I just put the fabric on the bag and cut the excess, so I can’t give you any tips on that.
All the fabric I bought were some cheap 50x50 sheets except for the dark gray fabric that was 75x50 I believe… It was more than enough.
(Edit: forgot to mention it but it’s all in centimeters)
Now you just need to place everything and start sewing.
Like this:
Once that’s done it’s painting time.
Some red outline on the screen part (you’ll be painting over the seams that’s why you don’t have to find perfectly matching tread for this part) plus some orange for the details and gray for the arrow.
Also draw the “Provisions” logo, with the stars. Be careful with this one, as I say acrylic paint doesn’t come off easily and it’s on a white surface. I’d advise to lightly sketch the logo with a pencil first.
Then the push slot, a rectangle in light gray paint and the letters in dark gray (You can also try to keep the fabric underneath while painting the rectangle to make the letters, like, painting around them. But i did not.) You can also use light gray fabric instead of painting it.
Time for some more details
I didn’t find any red and black/gray buttons so I painted the inside of mine. I will take a few coats and, depending on the material it will come of if you scratch it.
Also, the bullets I made with two piece of fabric sewn together and turned inside out with lines in dark gray paint. Inside of it I put a wire to make it keep the bandy shape of the original. For the size, I made mine to small and I can’t remember what side I made it but just do whit what you have left of fabric. (I believe I sew it too high too)
And some more details
With the thicker tread add the seams visible on the original cosmetic and attach the buttons.
And you’re finished ! Waw ! Bravo ! Voila ! Magnifique ! I need to sleep ! It’s midnight ! On a sunday !
Anyway, I hope this helps. If you need any pictures of my bag in detail, let me know.
And if one of you make one, show it to me ! I’d love to see it !
